Severino has rather ugly frontline numbers at 1-2 with a 5.25 ERA and 5.03 xFIP in seven starts since a belated season debut, but his situation is not all bleak. You see, his velocity averaged 96.7 MPH then 98.0 MPH his first two starts, when he allowed a total of two earned runs in 11.1 innings.

Then, perhaps due to muscle soreness after being out so long, the velocity dipped to 95.0, 95.6 and 96.2 MPH the next three starts and he was pummeled each time. Then the velocity returned his last two starts to 97.0 and 97.3 MPH, and he allowed only three earned runs two starts back before tossing six shutout innings vs one of the best offenses in baseball in Texas last out.

Liberatore has similar numbers to Severino with a 5.60 ERA and 5.68 xFIP, except he has no excuses, and his poor numbers are deserved. Also, Matthew has been especially atrocious vs, right-handed batters yielding an ungodly .958 OPS against them.

Granted, the Yankees remain without Aaron Judge, but they do figure to have eight right-handed batters in the lineup tonight with Anthony Rizzo being the lone exception, so look for them to jump on Liberatore early.
