The internet poker site launched by the Swedish National Lottery operator has generated a profit of $7.2 million in just three months of operation. Svenska Spel Poker currently holds an estimated 22% of the Swedish internet poker market and expects to reach 25% by the end of the year.
In the first half of 2006, the state-owned gaming operator recorded a decrease of 1.4% in total gross sales, while the sports betting games reported record levels of bets on the soccer World Cup and an overall 11% rise in betting turnover.
Earlier in August, a survey by newspaper Dagens Media showed that the majority of Swedish MPs want to see state agencies, and particularly Svenska Spel, reduce the amount they spend on advertising.
