Commenting on the developments Peter Greenhill, CEO of Betex, said: “These new agreements expand our distribution network to 13 provinces within mature lottery markets, providing us with a presence in more than 40% of China’s provinces. We will continue to look to expand our agency network further, introduce new software products into our range, and identify new ways to take advantage of the access we now have to the retail outlets.”

In 2005 Betex was the first foreign company to secure an involvement in the Chinese State Sports Lottery with deals in the provinces of Hebei and Guizhou. In August 2006, the company acquired sole rights to the next generation of the content software used in lottery retailing in China, while last week it entered the market for the remote selling of lottery tickets via mobile telephones with the purchase of an 80 per cent interest in a mobile lottery retailing operation.

Mobile gambling revenues in the Asia-Pacific region are set to rise from $966m in 2006 to $8.8bn come 2011, according to the latest industry report from Juniper Research.

Elsewhere, Probability plc raised £4.1million and become the first casino and bingo mobile operator to float on the London Stock Exchange.
