The Asia facing gaming company announced its association with Guangdong Le Ke Casual Lottery Bars Co Limited in the forthcoming launch of selected new football lottery shops in the Guangdong province, China’s single largest sports lottery market.
The new mega-shops have been licensed by the Guangdong Sports Lottery Management Centre and, from around June this year, will be offering betting on a selection of games from top-flight European football as part of the first trial in mainland China to offer products based on forecasting the result of a single football match.
“China has the potential to be one of the biggest gaming markets in the world and for the first time these trials provide an attractive and regulated opportunity to play on the result of a single football match. Our experience in working with the Sports Lottery Management Centres in both Hebei and Guizhou has confirmed to us that there is a very significant demand for single match football betting. We are very much looking forward to working with our new partners in Guangdong,” commented Peter Greenhill, Chief Executive of Betex.
Initially GLKLC intends to open 22 mega-shops, some of which will be open ahead of this year’s World Cup, in Guangzhou, the administrative capital of the province of Guangdong, located on the mainland next to Hong Kong and Macau.
The market size of the Chinese Sports Lottery is projected to be around $4 billion in 2006. Guangdong is forecast to contribute about 8% of the national sports lottery market and is the single largest market in China, bigger than Beijing and Shanghai provinces combined.
