The betting exchange has progressed its bid for a license in Tasmania offering to pay 25 per cent of the gross profit from racing revenues to the local racing industry, while the State Government would gain 6 per cent and a further 4 per cent would go to the community service levy.

For betting on other sporting events in Australia, such as AFL, the State Government would take 15 per cent and provide the racing industry with one-third of that, while 4 per cent would go to the community service levy.

“On today\’s figures alone, the percentages that we\’re talking about would run into the millions of dollars, rather than the hundreds of thousands of dollars,” said a sposesman for Betfair.
