The betting exchange has not published Victorian race fields since December in compliance with Racing Victoria\’s law.
“We are putting together our final touches to our application to Racing Victoria. We are optimistic, now that we are licensed, that we will be given approval,” said Andrew Twaits, Betfair Director of Corporate and Business Affairs.
“There is a strong argument that the racing fields legislation is not effective but we are looking at having a positive relationship with the racing bodies now that we are licensed in Australia,” he added.
Betfair is progressing with the installation of its infrastructure in Tasmania where it will spend more than $10 million and employ about 150 people.
In separate news, Betfair announced to have teamed up with Sportev, a mobile and broadband sports provider, to deliver live coverage of the ATP Tour in Acapulco exclusively to its UK customers.
Live coverage of the quarterfinals, semi-finals and final of the tournament will be broadcast from Betfair.com. Sportev will provide the technology. As there are no broadcast deals in place, this will be the only way that viewers in the UK will be able to watch the tournament.
“We are delighted to have won the contract to provide Betfair with live coverage of this event. The market for the provision of live video to bookmakers is showing strong signs of growth and Sportev is proud to be at the heart of the movement,” said Will Muirhead, Sportev Chief Executive.
“We are delighted to be able to offer our customers access to live footage from the tournament. Tennis is one of the most popular sports to bet on in-play and we are keen to build on this deal to offer live coverage of more tennis events in the future,” said Hugh Taggart, spokesman for Betfair.
Elsewhere, rival betting exchange Betdaq appointed Mark McGuinness as its new Marketing Director.
