The Levy Board has decided that all on-course bookmakers will have to make a signed declaration every time they visit a track, saying whether they are using betting exchanges or not.
According to the Racing Post, last year of the 700 racecourse bookmakers listed, only 22 registered as using betting exchanges, and of those, eight declared a loss on their exchange business.
Levy Board Chief Executive Tristram Ricketts confirmed that changes to the National Joint Pitch Council rules on betting-exchange declarations are being put together for introduction before April 1.
Ricketts also said that the board was in discussions to improve the flow of information from betting exchanges. The Levy Board is expected to seek permission to access individual accounts from companies such as Betfair.
