The first game is Manchester United v Basel and with United coming off the back of their first disappointing performance in the league, this may not be a good time to play the side many think will be Champions of England this season. Certainly, they have a big, strong side and will be a physical test for any opponent this season. I haven’t been able to find anything that has what I would consider “value” in the available markets. Best to move on.
Benfica v CSKA Moscow is one of those you could over-analyse but for me the safe bet is one the home win. It’s very difficult to find any value in that market but the 1.67 offered by Pinnacle just about does it for me. Wouldn’t want to go any lower though.
Chelsea take on Qarabag in their first season back in the Champions League, after not qualifying for it in 2015/16, and they couldn’t have asked for a much easier start. Qarabag shouldn’t be underestimated but they should be easily dispatched at the same time. I’m on Chelsea -1 at half time at 1.85 with BetVictor.
Sporting Lisbon travel to Olympiakos and although I suspect we may see an away win in this one, I won’t be betting on it. With odds of 3 available with the likes of bet365, it isn’t easy to overlook though.
Bayern Munich suffered a shock loss against Hoffenheim on Saturday. A loss at home against Anderlecht would be even worse and I suspect they will take the fight to the Belgians and deal with them quite professionally. I‘m on Bayern Munich to win to nil at 1.78 with BetVictor.
Celtic fans probably love and hate their group at the same time. They’d hoped to be in Champions League action after Christmas but the combination of both Bayern Munich and, this weeks opponents, Paris St Germain in their group make that quite unlikely. I fear it could be a bad night for Celtic who are ripping it up in their own league. Neymar to score at any time is my selection, you can get 1.7 with William Hill.
I don’t know what to make of AS Roma v Atletico Madrid. For that reason I’m staying out of it. I very much doubt we’ll see many goals though.
The game of the evening for me though, is Barcelona v Juventus. These two met in the semi-finals last April and Juventus came home “easy” winners. I think Barcelona are a weaker side this season but I think we’ll see a repeat of the last Barcelona v Juventus game. A draw.
I’m taking the 4.01 offered by Pinnacle to round out Tuesdays Champions League betting.
