Bookmakers and punters were in a chaos following last Sunday\’s F1 Grand Prix at Indianapolis.
British bookmakers, including Ladbrokes and William Hill, and Australian-based Centrebet treated all drivers as having raced sticking to Formula One\’s rules.
Bet365 and Skybet were among the bookmakers that paid out on the final result, but refunded stakes on the 14 “Michelin drivers” who pulled out.
Most Caribbean bookmakers declared the race null and cancelled all wagers.
“Obviously, we have sympathy with our clients who backed the Michelin drivers but we have to stick to the rules. We lost money on the race as it was,” said a Ladbrokes spokesman.
“One more Formula One farce and bookmakers will stop betting on the sport,” said Centrebet\’s Gerard Daffy.
