In one of the most ballyhooed Super Bowl sports betting promotions, FanDuel will bring back its Kick of Destiny segment, but the affable Rob Gronkowski will be replaced by Peyton and Eli Manning.
FanDuel Benches Gronk
Sports betting leader FanDuel teamed with former Patriots tight end and future Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski in the company’s Super Bowl promotion, “Kick of Destiny,” in which Gronk was tasked with kicking a 25-yard field goal through the uprights.
Those who registered with FanDuel for the event were eligible for a share of bonus money, but Gronkowski failed to get the job done two years in a row. Fans were still awarded free bets despite his failed attempt, but last year fans were asked to choose whether they believed he would be successful in his second bite at the apple.
Nearly 70% of Canadians believed he would, especially after hearing Gronk promise to be better the second time around. “I can’t lie; when I missed the Kick of Destiny during last year’s Super Bowl, it was devastating. I told the team at FanDuel I knew I could do better and needed a shot at redemption this year,” said Gronkowski.
Gronk got his shot but failed again and will not get a third opportunity to redeem himself. He’s been benched in favor of the Manning brothers, and the promos for their “Kick With Destiny” are already being aired.
FanDuel Kickin’ It With the Mannings
Sibling rivalry will be on display for the whole world to see when Peyton and Eli Manning compete against each other to see who will make the 25-yard field goal that eluded Gronk over the last two years.
No wager is needed to get in on the fun. Customers must choose who they believe will make the kick, and those who choose correctly will get a share of $10 million in bonus bets.
The rules are as follows:
- Peyton and Eli Manning will face off in a field-goal kicking competition.
- Each kicker will attempt a 25-yard kick.
- If the first kicker makes it, the second kicker is given a chance to tie.
- If the first kicker misses, the second kicker is given a chance to win.
- If both kickers miss, they will kick again until there is a winner.
- If no winner is decided after three rounds, the kicker who kicked it closest to the center target on the net in the last round wins the tiebreaker.
Despite Gronk’s two failed attempts, he was willing to share advice with either brother who wanted it. Posting on X, Gronk wrote, “Passing the torch this year, let me know if you need any tips boys!! “ But maybe Gronk has already shared why he failed to hit paydirt in his second attempt. Last year, leading up to his Super Bowl kick, he was asked how he felt as his date with destiny loomed. “The pressure is getting to me … I really wasn’t thinking about the kick; I was thinking about the interviews more,” Gronkowski said.
