Visitors to Atlantic City’s Golden Nugget casino will find that its sportsbook will be up and running well before the Super Bowl after being shuttered for renovations.

New & Improved

The Golden Nugget Atlantic City announced its sportsbook will reopen on January 29th with a wide array of aesthetic improvements to the sportsbook and an expansion of its wagering menu. It will all be available in the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, and guests should expect an immersive experience with five sprawling video walls and over 50 high-definition televisions along with self-service betting kiosks.

“Perfectly timed for guests to get their bets in for the Super Bowl, we are launching new and improved technology and betting options,” said Tom Pohlman, General Manager. “Our team is committed to providing an elevated betting atmosphere, and these enhancements are proof of that.”

Enhanced Features and Expanded Wagering Options

The retail sportsbook will feature many of the features found on the industry’s most popular mobile sportsbooks in terms of early cashouts, odds boosts, parlay builders, and alternate teasers. In addition to the traditional four major North American professional sports leagues, guests can find alternatives like UFC/MMA, college baseball, college softball, women’s college basketball, and men’s college hockey, as well as the Summer and Winter Olympics.

DraftKings Closes Live Dealer Studio at the Nugget

It was announced in November that Boston-based bookmaker DraftKings will shutter its in-house live dealer studio at the Golden Nugget and will instead use a third-party studio for live dealer casino games. The experience will likely be different, but the familiar DraftKings branding is expected to be omnipresent when the company makes the switch on January 31st.

“As we finalize our GNOG integration, effective January 31, 2025, DraftKings will transition its in-house Live Dealer operations to third-party studios in Atlantic City.

“We are supporting impacted employees to offer a smooth transition for as many as possible. Our Live Dealer offerings will remain uninterrupted.”

iGaming Expansion Strategy

DraftKings was a pioneer in bringing live online casino table games to its remote US customers back in 2016. The company then acquired Golden Nugget Online Gaming (GNOG) in 2021 for $1.56 billion in stock and relaunched its online studio at the Golden Nugget Atlantic City in 2022.

The sale was facilitated to give DraftKings a recognizable and reputable brand in the casino gaming market that would bolster its iGaming presence. Although DraftKings is one of the most popular mobile sports betting and daily fantasy sports brands, management believed it needed to acquire a brand that would resonate in the world of casino gambling.

“We’ve made some progress but have not yet deeply penetrated the very large audience that is non-sports fan iGamers,” DraftKings chief executive Jason Robins said during a conference call at the time of the purchase. “Really, we believe this will help us to attain much greater iGaming market share over the long term, including being more efficient with marketing and having tremendous synergies both on the cost and revenue side.”
