Nigel Payne, CEO of Sportingbet, condemned the US legislation that makes illegal for US financial institutions to do business with online gambling sites, saying it will likely drive the online gambling industry into unregulated hands.
“We’re disappointed not just because we think it’s bad law, but we’re disappointed because we think it is specifically against the World Trade Organisation ruling that Antigua & Barbuda successfully obtained against America,” said Payne.
The CEO of Sportingbet also said that is extremely unlikely that the company will have to downsize as a result of the US ban.
“We have not yet made a single employee redundant as a result of this action and most of the alternatives that we’re looking at for our business would not involve any downsizing,” he said.
It is understood that Sportingbet is actively searching for loopholes in the legislation in an effort to continue operating in the US.
