With Chancellor Gordon Brown\’s Budget due on Wednesday, online betting operators have been pressing for a 2% gross profits tax.
“The likelihood of the remote gambling industry locating itself in the UK, hinges on the Chancellor\’s taxation plans for the sector,” predicts Andrew McCarron, editor of Betting Business magazine.
However, the Treasury doesn\’t seem to be wiiling to set a taxation too low as it doesn\’t want to alienate the other gambling sectors, added McCarron.
