Further to the group’s announcement on October 2 and following the signing of the SAFE Port Act by the US President, PartyGaming has suspended all real money gaming activities to customers located in the US with immediate effect. The group’s play for free websites will continue to be available for US customers.
According to a source close to the company, one of the immediate effect of the US ban will be the downszing of PartyGaming\’s Indian operations. A large percentage of the 1,600 staff working from Hyderabad are expected to lose their jobs.
In other news, PartyGaming\’s European-focused sportsbook Gamebookers is gearing up to re-launch in early November as PartyBets.
Speculation among City traders this week suggested that Indonesia\’s tobacco tycoon Putera Sampoerna, owner of betting exchange Mansion, approached PartyGaming\’s shareholders about the possibility of his making a move for the online gambling group.
