Online casino gaming in Pennsylvania has proven to be a cash cow and the month of May was further proof that gamblers in the state have an insatiable appetite for iGaming by exceeding $170 million in revenue.
Pennsylvania Fertile Ground for Online Gaming
Since online casino gambling launched in the United States, only six states have adopted it whereas 37 states and Washington D.C. have legalized mobile sports betting. However, it is safe to say more will be entering the realm of iGaming after watching states like Pennsylvania reap handsome financial rewards from its platform providers.
May marked the sixth consecutive month that monthly revenue from iGaming has crossed the $160 million monthly revenue threshold. It should also be noted that monthly online casino gaming revenue has surpassed $170 million on just three occasions in the United States, with Pennsylvania’s May numbers of $170,390,947 in taxable revenue marking the third time it has happened.
In March 2023, Pennsylvania achieved a record-breaking amount of $181.5 million in revenue generated by the state’s digital gaming providers.
Slots remain the primary revenue generator with $130 million of May’s $170 million in combined revenue. Online table games swept in $37.8 million while poker racked up $2.5 million. The year-over-year increase was a whopping 24.6% as it demonstrates more and more Pennsylvanians are signing up and getting down without ever leaving their couch.

Hollywood Penn National Leads the Way
There are nine iGaming platform providers in the state but Hollywood Penn National was the clear and unencumbered winner, besting its nearest rival, Rivers Philadelphia, by nearly double the revenue. Hollywood generated the largest taxable revenue in two of the three categories including slots ($53,287,543) and table games ($17,765,628).
Hollywood’s online poker delivered $362,111 in taxable revenue which was a distant third of the four providers that do offer it with Mount Airy the undisputed king of that category generating $1,540,881 in poker revenue.
In total, Hollywood Penn National took in $71,415,282 in May followed by Rivers Philadelphia ($35,873,610), Valley Forge ($34,705,869), Mount Airy ($6,633,745), Harrah's Philadelphia ($6,178,865), Parx ($5,772,697), Live Philadelphia ($4,381,131), Mohegan Sun Pocono ($2,936,788), and bringing up the rear was Wind Creek ($2,492,960).
Valley Forge has been gaining traction in the market with revenues that skyrocketed over 50% from May 2022. However, if we shift gears to the realm of Pennsylvania online sports betting, we see that Valley Forge in partnership with FanDuel ruled all others in the state in May with a $192,464,527 handle and $29,182,076 in gross revenue.
