The Abierto Mexicano Telcel quarter-finals take place this Friday in Acapulco. Bookmakers Review breaks down the fixtures below and lists the best available odds from green listed bookmakers.

ATP Acapulco – Thiem vs. Querrey

The defending champion – Dominic Thiem – continues his impressive run. After winning the Rio Open title last week, Thiem increased his winning streak to 7 matches after a straight sets victory against Adrian Mannarino. The high bouncing conditions in Acapulco clearly suit Dominic’s game style with the Austrian winning 45.45% of Mannarino’s service games in the previous round.

Known for his powerful serve and strong forehand, Sam Querrey is always a fearful opponent. The American featured a very good performance in the previous round, defeating David Goffin by 6 – 2 6 – 3. Despite his solid win, Querrey was far from impressive on serve, allowing two breaks of serve and winning only 39.13% of the points played with his second serve.

This will be the 2nd career meeting between these two players with Thiem winning their previous encounter on the 2016 ATP Acapulco semi-finals by 6 – 2 6 – 2.

As it happened last year, we expect another victory from the Austrian due to his outstanding level in recent weeks. With this in mind, Dominic is the undeniable favourite to win this match with Pinnacle offering 2/5 for his triumph while Querrey is available at 9/4 at Bet365. For those who want to take a higher risk, Thiem’s -3.0 game handicap at 4/5 at 5Dimes is also an extremely valuable approach for this contest.

WTA Acapulco – McHale vs. Puig

Playing in Acapulco clearly brings the best out of Cristina McHale with the American holding an outstanding 9 – 2 career record at this event. Christina’s topspin forehand is very effective on these high bouncing courts with the 2014 runner-up trying to reach the semi-finals in Acapulco for the third time in her career. Looking now to McHale’s campaign so far on this event, the world no.45 reaches this stage of the competition after two straight sets victories over Fiona Ferro and Taylor Townsend.

Monica Puig continues to pursue her first title on the WTA Tour since May 2014 in Strasbourg. The bookmakers consider Puig the main favourite to lift the trophy in Acapulco with BetVictor currently offering 3/1 for the 201 Olympic gold medallists to win the title on this event. Although we agree with Monica’s favouritism due to her undeniable quality, it’s not easy for the Puerto Rican to perform at a consistent level with such an aggressive game style. After defeating Francesca Schiavone on her debut in Acapulco, Puig booked a place in the quarter-finals with a 6 – 4 6 – 4 victory against Daniela Hantuchova.

Even though this is not the first meeting between these two players, their previous encounter took place seven years ago when Puig was still outside the top 500. Therefore, McHale’s victory at the time it’s irrelevant for this analysis.

Taking a look now at the current prices, the bookmakers expect a close affair with Monica available at 71/100 at Pinnacle while McHale is offered at 13/10 at 5Dimes. Due to Puig’s inconsistency and Christina’s outstanding record on this event, the American is the only possible play on the moneyline. However, we’ll stick with the Over 21.5 at 91/100 at Pinnacle since we also expect a very tough battle between these two.
