After that Sportingbet announced to journalists gathered in Lisbon the launch of Sportingbet Portugal, a website offering sports betting, casino and poker games, the APC, which is the only organization that can promote casino gambling in Portugal, announced that it will launch litigation in order to defend the interests of the association.
“Portugal, like Italy and Germany, has a very old gambling legislation,” commented Matt Jellicoe, Head of Marketing at Sportingbet.
“Sportingbet called the European Commission stressing the need to restructure these laws,” he added.
Artur Mateus, General Secretary of the APC, said the launch of the new Sportingbet website proves that Portugal is an interesting market.
Mateus also criticized the Portuguese Government for the lack of intervention against online operators that consider Portugal an easy market to enter.
