The unrecognized partnership

According to online poker experts, more than 40 per cent of the over 44,000 players participating in this year\’s World Series of Poker found their way to Las Vegas winning tournaments on pay-to-play poker websites. While the Vice President of Harrah\’s Entertainment, owner of the WSOP, tried to distance the company from online poker businesses, the Marketing Director of PokerStars.com talked of sinergies between online poker sites and Harrah\’s.

The Nevada Gaming Board told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the World Series of Poker cannot accept money wire transfers coming from poker dot-coms. But how online poker sites transfer the funds that cover players\’ entry fees to the tournament remains a mistery.

Poker web sites didn\’t want to discuss the money issue with the Review-Journal and Harrah\’s simply repeated that they\’re not in business with dot-com sites.

America\’s hypocrisy at its worst.
