The Methodist Church complained to the Advertising Standards Authority about a poster ad for Victor Chandler featuring comedian Rowland Rivron using a laptop computer while sat in a bar with a glass of drink in his hand.
Victor Chandler said there was nothing in the ad that linked gambling to drinking and its intention was to show that online betting could be enjoyed via a laptop computer in different locations.
Settings for other posters in the ad campaign included a barber shop, a bed and a bus.
The Advertising Standard Authority rejected the complaint as they noted the consumption of alcohol was permissible in places that allowed gambling and that the association of gambling and drinking alcohol in the ads was not irresponsible.
