In Tasmania, Health and Human Services Minister Lara Giddings released the findings of the Tasmanian Gambling Prevalence Study, a survey conducted by Roy Morgan Research on more than 6,000 Tasmanians aged 18 and over in October and November 2005. According to the study, which is the largest ever conducted on the extent and impact of gambling in Tasmania, the number of problem gamblers has declined from previous surveys.
All respondents were asked questions regarding their behaviour and intentions with respect to internet gambling and it\’s very interesting to see that less than 1% said they gambled on the internet regularly. Those who gambled on the internet were regular gamblers and tended to participate in other forms of gambling. The majority (75%) tended to use Australian sites, while only 14% used international sites and less than 10% used both.
