Racing and Gaming Minister Mark McGowan said next month the State Government will introduce legislation in Parliament to ban overseas and domestic betting exchanges and corporate bookmakers from unauthorized use of WA race field information.

“The Carpenter Government will bring in strong legislation to prevent unauthorised access to our race field information,” said McGowan.

“Interstate wagering service providers, including corporate bookmakers, will need to gain approval to publish or otherwise make available WA race field information and will need to pay a fee of a commercial arrangement with Racing and Wagering WA.”

McGowan also commented on speculation that Betfair was close to get a license in Victoria.

“The situation in Victoria has been exaggerated. Racing Victoria has given no indication that they will grant approval to Betfair to operate in Victoria,” he said.

Elsewhere, following recent announcement that Vietnam is considering legalizing sports betting, the country\’s sports authorities attended a meeting that featured a presentation by UK leading bookmaker Ladbrokes on cooperation and technical matters to organize legal betting. Two other sports betting operators, Singapore Pools from Singapore and SMS from Vietnam, offered their cooperation in the sector to the Vietnamese Government.
