Picks Summary:

  • D’Angelo Russell Over 2.5 Three-Pointers Made (-130)
  • Trae Young Under 24.5 Points (-108)

The NBA regular season is over and the playoffs are here! The NBA Play-In tournament is this week. The teams that finished 7-10 in the standings will play in a mini-tournament to see who qualifies for the 7th and 8th seeds in the playoffs.

These games have an exciting winner-take-all format. As we have done all regular season, let’s dive right in to make more winning NBA picks.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Los Angeles Lakers

Tuesday, April 11, 2023 – 10:00 PM EDT at Crypto.com Arena

D’Angelo Russell (Los Angeles Lakers)

  • Over 2.5 Three-Pointers Made

The Los Angeles Lakers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves for the NBA’s first Play-In game for the Western Conference. The winner will earn the number seven seed in the West and play Memphis Grizzlies in the first round of the playoffs. Everything will be on the line when these two teams take the court tonight.

Minnesota will be without Center Rudy Gobert who was suspended for punching teammate Kyle Anderson in the chest during a timeout of the 113-108 win over the Pelicans. This will make going against the red-hot Lakers even tougher. The Lakers have won nine of their last 11 games. The Timberwolves are also playing well, however, having won seven of their last 10 games.

D’Angelo Russell was traded from the Timberwolves to the Lakers at the trade deadline. Russell should be excited to face his former team. Russell fits in excellently with the Los Angeles Lakers. Russell’s Sharpshooting pairs as well with the skills of Anthony Davis and LeBron James.

The Prop Pick

Because of the defensive attention on LeBron James and Anthony Davis, D’Angelo Russell will have plenty of opportunities for wide-open three-point shots. When betting player props we like to bet usage and opportunities. I expect Russell to get at least five or six wide-open three-point shots and he has been adept and making wide-open shots.

Our first player prop for the evening is D’Angelo Russell Over 2.5 Three-pointers made.

Atlanta Hawks vs. Miami Heat

Tuesday, April 11, 2023 – 07:30 PM EDT at Kaseya Center

Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks)

  • Under 24.5 Points

The Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat will face off in Miami. The winner of this game will achieve the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference and play the Boston Celtics in the first round. The Atlanta Hawks qualified for the playoffs by winning in the Play-In tournament last season.

Last year, the Hawks finished 9th but they defeated the Charlotte Hornets in order to qualify. They faced the Miami Heat in the first round of the playoffs. The Heat defeated the Hawks in five games. Losing the 7 vs. 8 game has been tough to overcome historically. The loser of this game is just 1-3 in the second game for the 8th seed.

The Atlanta Hawks finished the season 41-41. The Miami Heat are 44-38. The Miami Heat and the Atlanta Hawks played four times this season with the Heat winning three games. The Heat will look to continue their success against the Hawks in tonight’s winner-take-all matchup.

The Prop Pick

Trae Young was 10th in the league in scoring the season averaging 26.2 points per game. However, Young has struggled against the Miami Heat over his career. In 17 career games versus the Miami Heat, Young is averaging only 21.4 points per game on 40.2% shooting.

Young has only shot 32.8% on 3-pointers against the Heat. In the four regular-season games this season against the Heat, Trae Young averaged 19.8 points per game on just 35.6% shooting and was only 20.8% on his accuracy from three-point range. Contrast that to his career numbers against all other teams where Trae Young shoots 43.7% from the field in 35.1% from the 3-point range.

In the four games the Heat faced the Hawks this season, Trae Young only went over this number one time, and when he did he went over by 1 point with only 25 points. The Heat did an excellent job of stopping Trae Young in the playoffs last season and will target their defense upon him. This may lead to plenty of assist opportunities for Young, yet he will struggle to score the points on his own.

The Heat will deny the Hawks their best option. Following the NBA odds, our second prop for the evening is Trae Young Under 24.5 points.
