Sorry to miss you on Monday, Covid made a house call which knocked us off our feet. What also knocked us off our feet was how close Tom Brady was to becoming a Raider, but Jon Gruden again proved he was never a GM.

We also break down Peter Carroll’s dilemma and we have not one but two AFC previews for you today!

About Last Night…

MLB

The Mets lost for a second straight night in the Bronx to the Yankees on Tuesday, but what is to worry, the Metropolitans have won 25 of 37. Here is the answer, Atlanta has exactly the same record in that span of games and is sitting just two games behind New York.

NFL

That Tom Brady to Las Vegas story just won’t go away and let’s be honest, it is utterly fascinating to understand what that could have meant for the Raiders and Tampa Bay. Unfortunately, Derek Carr has to answer all the questions, nonetheless, you wonder, how many other stories like this are out there in sports?

The Buzz

NFL – Some 1+1 = 0

We understand Pete Carroll is a competitive person. He won two national championships at USC and was one play away from being a back-to-back Super Bowl champs.

While we realize each person has to make their own choice, Carroll will be 71 in September and he came out this week and said “we’ll take all the time we need” to choose a starting quarterback.

When Drew Lock caught Covid and was unavailable for Week 2, Geno Smith’s lack of talent was on full display in an ugly loss to Chicago. Carroll said Lock “will play a lot” this week. Even if Lock wins the job, the Seahawks are at least three years away from being a division contender.

Seattle Under 5.5 for season wins total looks better every day without a true NFL playoff caliber QB.

NBA – Is Kevin Home Alone?

After much conjecture, Kevin Durant is not going anywhere but Brooklyn. The Nets said no to trade and the market they and Durant expected was not there. Brooklyn is the third choice to win the East. Any bets on how many games Durant, Kyrie Irving and Ben Simmons play together this upcoming season?

The Indianapolis Colts have been fitted for harness and chariot with Matt Ryan at the controls, looking to not only win the AFC South but make a deep playoff run also. Ryan enters with a much improved receiving group and being able to turn around and hand the ball to Jonathan Taylor is one of the best options in football. For the offense to click, the offensive line has to be healthier. The defense was average last year and appears much the same.

Tennessee is on the way down. The O-Line is no longer a dominating unit, as having Derrick Henry covers up weaknesses. After a great run as Titan, Ryan Tannehill is starting to make the same types of mistakes he did at Miami and now he’s 34. The Titans’ defense is tough to run on (5th in 2021) and not difficult to throw on (25th). Likely 9-8 or 8-9.

Jacksonville has to hope quarterback-friendly Doug Pederson is the right man for the job, otherwise, prized QB Trevor Lawrence might never see his true potential in the next three to five years. Owner Shad Khan wisely pulled the plug on Urban Meyer and spent big bucks in the off-season, envisioning his team will be close to .500 and a playoff team next year. In truth, the Jaguars should be improved, with double-digit losses still a likelihood.

Houston might have a long-term solution under center with Davis Mills as he played with great poise on a bad team a year ago. The Texans’ offense has an improved line, but last year’s No. 31 defense doesn’t seem radically improved and might only end up modestly better, not making Houston much of a win totals play.

Odds to Win the AFC West and Season Win Total 2022

  • Los Angeles Chargers  (+225): Over 10.5 (-130) / Under (+100)

Football Pulse

You have to give the Kansas City Chiefs credit, for years they have been unafraid of taking a chance, and trading away the league’s best deep threat in Tyreek Hill sure was. However, that freed up cash to spend on the defense for the Chiefs and they trust Patrick Mahomes will learn to stay more patient after seeing a full year of two deep coverage, where you have to take what the defense gives.

The Chargers look to have everything it needs to possibly pull ahead of K.C. and win the AFC West. The offense has the necessary components starting with Justin Herbert who is in charge of a multi-faceted attack. What we wonder about is the Bolts’ run defense. Last year. L.A. was 30th, which is a trend because they have an up-and-field mentality, and they are continually gouged by draws or even slow developing run plays with their lack of discipline.

  • Broncos Looking to Ride

The Denver Broncos got the QB they think they need and everything else is in place. But where is Russell Wilson at 33? One would think he has a lot to prove to doubters and he would have a monster year. Yet, is Wilson any better than the third-best QB in the division? The wide receiver situation has talent but is sadly lacking in consistency. Will Wilson be able to elevate the offense’s level of play? This feels like a team that wins 11 times or 8.

The Raiders: It doesn’t matter if they play in Oakland, Las Vegas or wherever. Just when they get their fanbase excited, they lose two or three in a row. And just when everyone has given up on the Black and Silver, they win four straight like last year to make the playoffs. This is a big year for the franchise, are they better than a .500 team and can Josh McDaniel prove he’s an NFL head coach?

Who Is Right?

Curiosity loves company. Here is something you don’t see every day for betting baseball. Today we have…

The first two contests have huge support for Over’s and the latter an Under. How large of support? 80 to 95 percent on the money and bets placed. So what’s the big deal? Not one game has come off its original number as of 2:00 PM EDT and even the juice has literally been adjusted by pennies. No influence on these three totals at all!

Let’s get some winners! See you back here Friday.
