Jared Goff played a part in a blockbuster trade last year but could he be shipped off again?
The LA Rams traded Goff along with first-round NFL Draft picks in 2022 and 2023 to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford during the 2021 offseason. The end result seemed to be worth it as the Rams beat the Bengals in Super Bowl 56.
The story was quite the opposite for the Lions, who finished the season ranked as the second-worst team league and will pick at No. 2 overall come April.
We’ve already seen two massive QB trades go down with Russell Wilson to the Broncos and Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders. Kirk Cousins is staying in Minnesota and Aaron Rodgers will take the Packers to his grave. The Steelers also found an answer at quarterback by inking Mitch Trubisky.
Still, my guess is that the QB carousel is just getting started!
But which teams are left that could go after Goff?
1. Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers have had some bad luck at quarterback and will be looking for their franchise starter this offseason.
There’s a high possibility that they’ll draft one of the top quarterbacks from this year’s draft class at No. 6 overall, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be out of the market for a more seasoned QB. Especially with Matt Rhule in the hot seat entering the 2022 season, there’s no way he’ll want to trust a rookie with his fate.
Rumors are floating around that Carolina is heavily interested in trading for Deshaun Watson, but with all of the baggage that he’s still dealing with it’s unclear as to whether or not something will happen there.

That’s where Goff comes in, who would have some fancy weapons to work with in Carolina, which he lacked in Detroit last season.
2. Miami Dolphins
Are the Miami Dolphins really all in on Tua Tagovailoa or is it just for show?
Tagovailoa finished the 2021 season completing 67.8% of his passes for 2,653 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. The Dolphins went 9-8 and head coach Brian Flores got kicked to the curb.

The third-year quarterback will have a lot to prove this season under new head coach Mike McDaniel, who just might welcome some quarterback competition by adding Goff to the mix. After all, McDaniel wouldn’t want to end up in Flores’ shoes after just one year.
And Goff would bring some experience to Miami as a two-time Pro Bowler with a 64.1 completion percentage and 126 touchdowns against 63 interceptions.
3. Indianapolis Colts
Here’s a team most definitely looking for a quarterback answer after trading Wentz away to the Commanders, leaving them with Sam Ehlinger as the No. 1 quarterback on their depth chart.
And without a top 20 draft pick in the 2022 NFL draft, they’ll be out of the running for one of this year’s star quarterbacks. Of course, Goff might not be their long-term answer but if they want to have that “win now” mentality or at least be a contender in 2022, Goff could be the guy for them.
With a reliable offensive line matched by a sturdy defense and stud running back in Jonathan Taylor, Goff could find some success with Indy.
But Goff isn’t the only option out there as all three of these teams have the possibility of going after Jimmy Garoppolo, Jameis Winston, or Marcus Mariota this offseason.
Not to mention that Goff’s contract is also a lot easier to get out of come 2023, so don’t be surprised if he sticks around for another season…and don’t be surprised if he doesn’t.
