Davis then “Calmly reached behind him (me) and lightly tapped the attendant”

Flight attendant shouts “Don’t hit me”

After the plane landed, Davis was placed in handcuffs

Odds on whether the story is accurate vs it was more than a tap?

It’s a tough call - we have heard ONE side of the story.

We will likely never hear United’s side of the story - because what do they have to gain. They come out and prove he’s lying - they look petty arguing with a former athlete. They admit he’s right - they look bad and potentially discriminatory.

BS he didn’t know something was up the moment that plane landed. Have you ever taken a flight where everyone didn’t immediately jump up after taxi to the jet way and start blocking the aisle ? So when they announced everyone needed to remain seated while “they handled some business” and local PD came aboard - he knew what was up. Probably about then he started introducing himself to everyone around him and signing autographs.

Again - he said United reached out and apologized. Great - post the proof. I guarantee they didnt just say “sorry our employee tried to have you arrested” in a phone call and didn’t do anything else. Worse - he said the airline told him they were suspending the employee without pay in his version - doesn’t hold water to me. Flight crew are union employees - coming out and saying that not only shows a pre disposition as to who was wrong - it also is not something they would tell the other side in a call.

Now was it a tap - a punch or something between - I have no idea. But guaranteed if one party were completely blameless and the other responsible - we would have heard from one of dozen other people uninvolved in 1st class that flight (as I believe he confirmed it happened in 1st class) - if in coach - there would be even more witnesses. The fact no one is talking says at best it’s somewhere in the middle of not his fault. Again - no way a dozen people someone harassed and don’t speak up.

Also - short flight - odds are it was a VERY new flight attendant.

They tend to put newbies up front (less people / less problems). Flight crew get paid from wheels up to wheels down only - so not many bidders on those short/regional routes as they don’t pay welll (you bid for slots - higher tenure gets higher preference)

Can he even sue as it was in air ? Similar to cruise lines - I thought airlines were under a very different set of laws while in air. Many compel arbitration as part of the ticket contract.

At very least - it’s Federal Court - not state. Federal is very corporate friendly. There’s a reason these big companies give millions to presidential campaigns - presidents appoint Fed judges.
