All those big X's compared to an extremely stagnant minimum wage. People see 15 dollar minimum wage today up from 7.25 and say oh damn that big of a rise is causing our problems. No, the problem is that minimum wage should have been going up this whole time and 15 should be up from 13.50 or something in that range.

The elites have been getting richer and richer because they have been successful at keeping the minimum wage from rising the way it should have been over the last 30-40 years. That rubberband has to snap back at some point esp after the pandemic which had such an effect worldwide.

You make good points sharp

But anytime there is a drastic change in what employers have to pay their employees, those same employers are simply going to counter by raising their fees, and then everyone they deal with has to do the same, whether they need to or not

So it all equals out - Nobody gains anything

Or it SHOULD all equal out

This time around, it seems everyone exaggerated their price increases in order to pay their employees the difference

Things are worse than it was before and the difference in the the increase minimum-wage employees got and the $ they/we are having to put out now, is even more than before

Agreed there was an overreaction which didn't help an already fragile situation. But at some point, this had to happen it was inevitable, sadly. It just happened at one of the worse times.

But with alternative employment growing at such rates, minimum wage has to jump and it has to now because the workforce these people have been getting rich off of is dwindling. And it will continue to dwindle as long as people can make more doing something else.

People are finding so many new ways to become self-employed. I know several people now who used to work regular old jobs before the pandemic and have now come out of it self-employed doing things like irl content and streaming. And making way more than they ever did getting paid a shitty 7-8 dollars an hour.

Sites like Twitch and Youtube are booming with new content creators and now online content has become such a lucrative market that even doing simple shit like going fishing or golfing daily can make u more income than any normal job u can find in any area because those jobs pay less than it takes for u to survive on. Sure it takes a commitment but no more of one than a normal 9-5 takes. Not everyone can do it but enough can that it has made a real steep dent esp on women in the workforce. A woman now can get on a streaming site in short shorts or a bikini etc and make more than the minimum wage per hour and if they wanna get a little more exposed they can make tons more. all while working for themselves making their own hours and all.

Would also have been nice if we could have had an agreement made that okay a jump to 15 may be a bit too much too quick how about we go to 10 now with a guaranteed increase every so many years moving forward. let's all bend a little so that things can gradually equal out.

would have made too much sense. neither side of our government ever does the things that make the most sense or can agree on those things that do, sadly.

That’s exactly what they’re doing in Florida actually, so every state has a different policy. Florida’s Minimum Wage raised to $10.00 per hour effective September 30th, 2021. Each September 30th thereafter, minimum wage shall increase by $1.00 per hour until the minimum wage reaches $15.00 per hour on September 30th, 2026. From that point forward, future minimum wage increases shall revert to being adjusted annually for inflation starting September 30th, 2027.

this approach always made more sense to me. I know it's never as easy or plain as it seems because every state has different circumstances etc but a tweak here a tweak there and it can certainly work.

I think the worst part of the data you show JDS is the housing costs.

1970 Houses cost 2X average income. Now its almost 10X.
Both my kids make very good livings at their professions and they cannot afford to buy a house anytime in the near future.

The only problem I have with such a drastic leap in minimum wage, is some just don't deserve it

Sorry I don't mean to offend anyone but it's just true

Some of these idiots work at fast food joints because it's the only thing they're capable of

And even then they can't get it right

We've all seen it plenty of times

You drive off with the wrong order, food missing, no straws, no condiments, no knapkins, and so on

These ppl do the same simple things every day and STILL can't get it right

So how in the hell could they manage a more responsible job?!?

This is why every once in awhile, you will see a video go viral where a customer has just had enough of dealing with those idiots, and snap

There are some good fast food employees, but overall, they did not & do not deserve substantial raises

Yeah, that’s the sad reality of some of the middle class that has to accept.

Chick-fil-A has the best employees and the best attitudes in the fast food industry. Everyone else falls short to their business model.

Purchasing power of 15K in 1973 is about 107K today. There are places in America -- albeit not great ones -- where that still buys you a small house today. So in reality 3 or 4x.

Shits more expensive for sure. Most of our money is now just a number multiplying onto itself on a computer server somewhere
