At our high school football games the FFA raises the US and Texas flag on separate flag poles during the national anthem. A few times the Texas flag was being raised higher than the US flag. These kids don't know any better.

I figured the administrators or FFA Sponsor would address the situation. After the 2nd time it happened, I walked through the field entrance gate and "corrected" them. At first the cop guarding the gate stopped me from entering and asked me where I was going. When I told him, he didn't hesitate and said, "Go ahead".

Kids don't know flag etiquette. Something that was lost in school education somewhere along the way.

People that do know better flying them upside down. The American flag should always be treated with the up most respect. Because of the reason Genie gave above. In a case like Tanko was talking about, a little education goes a long way most times.

While there are additional parts to the message I may not agree with - the basis of the message is correct . The US flag should always be above all else - be it state flag, other nations flags, LGBTQ, confederate battle flag or any religious symbol when displayed on US soil. This simply serves as a reminder that above all else - the USA represents a nation of many individuals of different beliefs/ancestory who came together as one nation. That nation respects individual rights and freedoms and placing your beliefs above others is opposite that statement.

Exactly - when you are sworn into the military - you don’t swear allegiance to any president/party - you swear allegiance to the NATION. There is no - “I don’t agree with the liberals or I am a Christian and my beliefs supersede everyone else’s”. You take the oath and agree to protect the nation.

My biggest problem with Trump will always be his supporters - not the man himself. He is what he is for better or worse - a politician. A few of his supporters act like he is some kind of demigod - fighting those they don’t agree with and “restoring” the nation to what they want it to be.

Thing is - it never was what they claim it was. It’s been an evolving society for 200 plus years and we have had plenty of disagreements amongst citizens. But somehow people think this is a “new” phenomena. History repeats itself - look at any empire and you will find disagreement and you will find the fall was caused by inability to resolve these disagreements and restore peace.

My father was drafted and served as did several others of his generation for the sole purpose of creating a nation where their children didn’t have to. These are people who didn’t die defending their country - they died defending the ideals it held when it crafted its constitution and announced its independence. It annoys me there is a generation walking around now acting like they are ready to go to war for a politician - but who never came close to volunteering for their country.

Obviously this is neither sports or gambling related - but as mentioned there are a few here who have more to say on the topic. With that - I’m finished on the topic tonight - back to your regularly scheduled shitshow.

Can't believe we're seeing this and those doing it are doing it as a sign of "patriotism" and being applauded by other "patriots" for doing so.

I realize it's just a flag, but like this thread shows, we can not underscore the meaning of the symbol enough.

It's definitely a political topic, but I don't see the personal nastiness that would keep it from being in both political and Chit Chat forums.
