YNW Melly to face retrial prosecution says

YNW Melly is headed back to court on first-degree murder charges, with the Broward County State Attorney’s Office saying they will retry the rapper for the Oct. 2018 killings of two men.

A rep for the Broward County State Attorney’s Office confirmed to Rolling Stone that they would seek a retrial after Pitchfork first reported the news. A rep for the office declined to comment further, saying, “We don’t comment on pending cases.” A lawyer for YNW Melly — real name Jamell Demons — did not immediately return a request for comment.

The decision to retry Demons isn’t surprising after his initial case was declared a mistrial on Saturday, July 22, after jurors failed to reach an unanimous verdict following two days of deliberations. Demons had pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder for the killings of fellow rappers Anthony Williams and Christopher Thomas; he faced the death penalty if convicted.

The nearly 20-day trial wrapped last week with closing arguments taking place on Thursday, July 20. The deadlock was apparent almost immediately, with the jury telling the judge on Friday that they’d been unable to reach a decision. While the judge ordered them to keep deliberating, another day passed without a verdict, ultimately prompting the declaration of a mistrial.

Prosecutors have claimed that Demons conspired to kill Williams and Thomas with co-defendant Cortlen Henry (who is being tried separately). Authorities alleged that Demons shot the two men inside a Jeep, driven by Henry; afterwards, the car was allegedly driven to an area near the Everglades, where Demons and Henry allegedly shot at the Jeep from the outside to make it look like a drive-by shooting.

Demons’ defense team, however, has argued that the rapper had no motive to kill Williams and Thomas, who were described as Demons’ “best friends.” Demons’ defense team has also highlighted the fact that a murder weapon was never recovered.

Having watched this case rather closely would you say the prosecution did a good enough job for a conviction ? Would you have voted guilty ?

Nah I wouldn't let that girl prosecute again. She had no fire in her voice. Word is 9 jurors out of 12 voted not guilty that's how bad of a job she did & the investigation was rather sloppy. No murder weapon, Detectives threaten witness. Now the defense can go over every second of the 1st trial and tighten up their mistakes.

So what did BOL do? Grade a push?

You think he could beat this case two times?

BOL, I'm talking to you. You gonna hang a line this time around?

If the line is tight and right I'll be like...

Pretty easy Not Guilty

My hope would be, actually, that what you say would be consensus and the line would open artificially low, creating value on the favorite verdict of guilty.

If they're going to trial again, they aren't fukking around. I did not read this thread, I'm going with what little I know.

But the fact that a DA is going at it again, and the math with conviction rates, I'd look at the number they hang. It's this knowledge that makes me think the line might not be hung very low.

But the perception leaning towards not guilty might be enough at BOL. Hard to tell.

Let's see a number, BOL.

I didn't follow it.

Is it that bad? Why the mistrial? Did he almost get off? My take could be a bad one here, lol.

Sometimes the math is right, then you find out the starters are resting, that of course changes things.

Is this a load management situation?

:lmao:

The meeting went down in court today to see when they should start 2nd trial. But hearing has been pushed back until August 4th But there is some real interesting tidbits here.

1.) Kristine Bradley requested a trial start date of oct. 2, to which the defense team agreed. she also asked to try the rapper with co-defendant Cortlen Henry, known as ynw bortlen.

2.) Defense attorney Stuart Adelstein objected to trying Melly with Henry because Melly is facing the death penalty and Henry isn’t.

3.) Broward Circuit Court Judge John Murphy, however, didn’t rule on Bradley’s request.

They want try Bortlen with Melly so they can flip Bortlen to testify against Melly.
I see. well, by doing that, Bortlen might just incriminate himself. I bet his participation is almost the same as Nelly, the only thing that differs between them is he didn't pull the trigger directly.
