A dogs nail has to be trimmed longer than a humans. What happened is you cut the "quick" on your dogs nail. If there is any doubt leave the nails long or take them to a good vet for thier nail trimming.

Indeed, it’s very tricky and after that incident I promise myself not to cut his nails ever again!
