  • Friday's slate opens with the traditional "Chicago Cubs are home for the weekend" matinee. The series is a rematch from last weekend when the Cubs traveled to the desert for a set against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Last time out, Arizona starter Humberto Castellanos (1% rostered in ESPN leagues) set his 2022 high-water mark, punching out five Cubs in 5⅓ innings, but he also surrendered a pair of homers. However, the Cubs have slugged homers at the sixth-lowest rate versus right-handers while also fanning the most. This sets Castellanos up for another strong performance, and he merits some streaming consideration.
  • Streaming pitchers is an inexact science. All one can do is trust the process and hope things work out in a positive manner, accepting some hiccups along the way. Tyler Wells (9% rostered) looked to be in a great spot in his most recent outing, facing a weak Detroit Tigers lineup, but he surrendered three runs in four frames. On Friday, Wells draws a vulnerable Tampa Bay Rays squad in Baltimore. The visitors have a below-average wOBA facing right-handers while whiffing at the fifth-highest clip in those games. Wells has been very comfortable pitching in the renovated Camden Yards, rendering just two earned runs across 15 stanzas.
    • After limiting the Oakland Athletics to one hit over six scoreless innings in his major league debut, Chase Silseth (4%) earned another start, this time facing those same Athletics. The first encounter was on the road, but this time it will be in Angels Stadium, where the Angels have won 12 out of 19 games. Before he was called up, Silseth was dominant at Double-A Rocket City, striking out 37 over just 26 frames. Meanwhile, Oakland has the 10th-highest strikeout rate facing right-handers.
    • The New York Mets play half their games in one of the most pitcher-friendly venues in the league, so they'll welcome a weekend visit to Coors Field. Many of their better batters are obviously unavailable in most ESPN leagues, but it's worth checking out Brandon Nimmo (70%), Eduardo Escobar(68%) and Mark Canha (62%) in shallower formats. Dominic Smith (2%) and J.D. Davis (1%) are two chief targets, with Smith likely to start Friday against right-hander German Marquez and Davis probably getting the nod on Saturday with southpaw Austin Gomber on the hill.
While many will be looking to Coors Field for their streaming hitters and DFS points, the Tigers are an under-the-radar option as they face Aaron Civale, who has surrendered six earned runs in three of his past four outings. DFS prices will allow everyone in a stack. Jeimer Candelario (50%), Jonathan Schoop (45%), Robbie Grossman (42%) and Willi Castro (2%) are the best batters to target for a boost in daily leagues. Other standalone hitters in favorable spots include Alek Thomas (21%) and Chas McCormick(2%).

Gimenez will sit Friday against the Tigers.
Spin:Gimenez had been in the lineup against three of the last four lefties the Guardians had faced, but he'll sit here against southpaw Tarik Skubal. Yu Chang will get the start at second base while Amed Rosario starts at shortstop.

Muncy is out of the lineup for Friday's game at Philadelphia, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Spin:Muncy has a .710 OPS through 16 games in May and will take a seat after starting the past five contest. Justin Turner will serve as the designated hitter while Hanser Alberto starts at the hot corner.

Ramirez (lower leg) is in the lineup for Friday's game against the Tigers, batting third and playing third base.
Spin:Ramirez was pulled from Thursday's game against the Reds after fouling the ball off his right shin, but the injury apparently won't cost him any games. That's great news for the Guardians, as Ramirez is hitting a typically excellent .280/.377/.553 on the y

Mahle (undisclosed) was placed on the restricted list before Friday's game at Toronto.
Spin:Mahle is presumably unvaccinated and unable to enter Canada for the three-game set this weekend. The 27-year-old wasn't scheduled to pitch regardless after taking a no-decision Thursday in Cleveland, and he should be back on the active roster for his next turn through the rotation, which should come early next week against the Cubs.

Drury (undisclosed) was placed on the restricted list ahead of Friday's series opener at Toronto.
Spin:players need to be vaccinated in order to enter Canada, so the news likely means Drury is unvaccinated and cannot enter the country. He should be available again when the Reds return home Monday to face the Cubs. Matt Reynolds and Alejo Lopez could see more playing time during his absence this weekend.

Votto (illness) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Friday.
Spin:The veteran first baseman has been sidelined nearly three weeks after testing positive for the virus, but he's now back with the Reds after going 2-for-11 with four walks over a four-game rehab assignment in the minors. Votto was off to a slow start this season prior to the absence, hitting just .122/.278/.135 with a 32.2 percent strikeout rate.

Harper (elbow) is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Spin:The 29-year-old was initially expected to miss only one game after receiving a PRP injection last weekend to address the UCL sprain in his right elbow, but he'll now be sidelined for the fifth straight contest. Harper has been limited to serving as the designated hitter for most of the season due to the injury, though it hasn't affect his ability to hit given his .305/.361/.634 slash line with nine home runs, 27 RBI, 29 runs and six stolen bases. It's unclear when he may be able to rejoin the lineup, and for now he should be considered day-to-day.

Thank you in beautiful Santa Barbara till Monday. Going to catch a couple of the the UCSB Gauchos baseball games.
Magic Number is Two
This weekend the Gauchos have a chance to claim their second Big West Title in three seasons and effectively punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The Gauchos need either two wins, or a win and a loss from Cal Poly to hoist the trophy once again.

Head Coach Andrew Checketts would become the only coach Gaucho skipper in school history two win a second Big West Championship and it would give UCSB its sixth postseason trip in his tenure. It would be the fifth trip in seven seasons

Alvarez will sit Friday against the Rangers.
Spin:Alvarez finds himself on the bench for the first time in over a month. He's having a strong season at the plate, hitting .2488/.357/.570 with 12 homers, though he's gone hitless in five of his last six games, so a day off would probably do him some good. Michael Brantley will rest his legs as the designated hitter in his absence, with Chas McCormick starting in left.

Gurriel (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Reds, but he could be available off the bench, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Spin:Gurriel exited Wednesday's contest with tightness in his left hamstring and will be out of the lineup for at least one game, but it appears he's avoided a serious injury. The 28-year-old could be back in the starting nine at some point this weekend against Cincinnati. Bradley Zimmer will take his spot in the lineup with George Springer serving as the designated hitter Friday.
