About 18 years ago I read an article about hacking from a white hat group headed by a guy named Van Hauser. It said that they had used a hacking tool named Hydra to infiltrate the authorities. They had previously claimed the authorities were illegally reverse-activating webcams of German citizens to spy on them. The authorities in Bavaria said they would never engage in such illegal activity. The hack proved that the authorities were doing exactly that. When confronted with the evidence the Bavarian authorities defence was that being in authority made the activity legal. I don't Skype or ever use the webcam so for the last 18 years i've put tape over the webcam of every laptop i've had. I know it's being paranoid but it costs me nothing to do it. Why make a bad bet when I can make no bet?
