She said nothing about taking anyone's guns away. Simply put there needs to be a responsibility by legal gun owners to make sure those weapons are stored safely. Not sure why this is such a horrible idea and it doesn't violate anyone's Second Amendment rights whatsoever.

this is becoming more and more important if we made sure more legal guns were secured properly maybe we could avoid some of these school shootings etc that are killing our kids.

Doesn't seem radical I mean if we can stop some of our kids from getting killed isn't that worth it?

What? She said just because you legally own a gun in your locked home doesn't mean we aren't going to come into your locked home.

So what's the reason for that, if they're not here to take your gun away? They're there to have a beer with you?

Government agents forcing themselves into your home because you legally own a firearm isn't radical?

Did she say "to take your gun away"? No, so you are just putting words in her mouth, aren't you? I listened to the same video u did and I didn't hear " take guns away " a single time.

If a report is filed that guns are not properly and safely stored so shouldn't it be a matter for the police to investigate and if proven fines etc can be issued as we do with so many other things?

Owning guns doesn't mean u can be an idiot with them, no?

Why do you think federal.agents would break into your home to check your guns if they're not there to take from you?

At times i kind of hope she wins just so those who are supporting her can suffer when she makes things 25x worse than they have are. It will fun rubbing their noses in it just like we had to do with those who for Biden who regretted it later on when things started turning to hell

I am Cajun I owned guns before I knew how to ride a bike. I have never been worried about anyone coming to take my guns, that's a political dog whistle and nothing more.

If a complaint is made by someone that guns in a home are not being stored safely then why shouldn't the authorities go take a look and if proven then hand out fines etc?

You seem like a cool guy from reading your posts aren't you tired shouldn't we all be tired of dead kids and school shootings? If doing this made sure even some guns were more secure and could avoid even a percentage of these violent events. wouldn't that be worth it?

Direct quote"walk into that home and check to see if you're being responsible.” I think not, so there is at least a discussion to be had about what she was saying.

again just because we can own guns doesn't mean we should be allowed to be stupid with them esp in a house that also has children.

The problem though continues not to be “Improperly” stored guns - but irresponsible, untrained and downright criminally negligent owners.

I do not disagree that owners have a responsibility to secure weapons properly - and that tragic consequences result from cases where they don’t. School shootings though simply haven’t been one of those consequences lately.

The last case involved a parent BUYING their kid a gun AFTER he threatened to shoot us a school. The issue is parents wanting to be their kids friend and not their parent. Too many people who can’t understand that being a parent is not a popularity contest.

It’s like saying you’re going to end the opioid epidemic by cracking down and tightening supply - it won’t solve it - only make things more difficult for patients who legitimately need opioids. Those who want to obtain drugs illegally will continue to be able to do so using existing channels. Yes - it might cause price increases (which will just push crime up) - but it won’t stop someone from using. Likewise - putting a penalty in place for an unsecured gun won’t make people be more responsible than they were before - it will just create more issues for law enforcement with one additional thing to police.

If you want more security - the solution is simpler. Mandate trigger locks and additional security features on any weapon sold. Cost would be minimal - and the choice would remain with owners. Ignore and don’t use - you face huge civil suits if you so something stupid. Remove bankruptcy protection and homestead protections from suits too - expose the stupid to full responsibility for their lack of action.

Think of it similarly to how ATV manufacturers solved their issues with lawsuits in the 1980s. Anytime you bought an ATV after like 1990 - you got a certificate good for like a $200 rebate for taking an approved safety course and a free helmet. Didn’t stop accidents of course - but made sure riders were given safety incentives. Do the same with guns - trigger lock and $50-100 for taking an approved safety course at a local range.

Actually it does what do you think "Will not infringe means?" I understand the argument that nobody should have a gun but that means nobody including judges, politicians security, and cops etc... we all know that will never happen so nobody is forcing you to live in the United States of America you can always move.

And agree - the whole “they’re coming to take our guns” rhetoric gets old.

They have been coming for 30+ years now - yet to see any real crack down.

There is little threat of a complete overhaul of the system - but changes need to occur for everyone’s safety.

I get it but it is just another step we can put into replace which adds to lowering the chances and at this point with literally nothing being done I think a discussion on her point is certainly there to be had.

my original point was she never said anything about taking anyone's guns away and that what she said there was being misrepresented as a "radical" gun hater.

no one including me said anything about nobody owning a gun or infringement of any kind that is your ignorant take on things.

But your personal experience or not being worried about anyone coming to take your guns has nothing to do with what she said.

I've had guns my whole life as well. Anyone who walks around thinking it's something normal for the feds to be able to break into someone's home and check for weapons is certifiably insane.

Yes, of course I'm tired of school shootings but that isn't a guns fault. It's the people. Would it make you feel any better if those people in those schools were killed by rocks and sticks instead of a gun?

A gun is only a tool. A tool, any tool, can be used responsibility or irresponsibility. The individual is what matters not the tool.

It's an extremely dangerous tool that should be stored properly and safely in every location esp a home and even more so a home with kids.

I don't see where that is radical in any way and we should be doing more to make sure that is the case.
