Strange saga with Pickett in Pittsburgh.

First they spend a first round pick on him when they easily could have gotten him a round later (no other QB taken until the third round)

And then they give up on him in a very short period of time

Yeah, when they got him they were going to develop him. They had high hopes, especially locally.

Somebody lost their patience.

Dumb move, Wilson is washed up and he’s not the right piece to take them to any kind of success.

I wonder if Tomlin had the Moneyball Billy Beane-David Justice talk with Russ “The Broncos are paying you not to play for them.”

Steelers only paying less than $2 mill of Russ’ contract

And agree Steelers really started screwing this up years ago with no real post-Big Ben plan.

First they let Ben hang on too long. Then they had no realistic backup or draft choice to pick a replacement

So true, Pickett became their plan.

They already bailed on it.

Yeah I didn’t realize he was that cheap for them lol, still shouldn’t have bailed on Pickett, Wilson could‘ve helped him develop possibly sitting behind him.

They must have some brilliant draft plan as Wilson is now the only QB.

The more we think it over, the weirder it gets.

Russ has ZERO give a shit to listen to any coaching now that he be getting paid regardless if he plays or not. How long does his old lady stick around. Not going to be certain what city to call home for the foreseeable future. He still carrying the Seahawks failure on his shoulders

Cannot figure Steelers out here.

So let’s say they are right - Wilson starts every game next year.

What’s the plan the following season ? Wilson again ?

Do they really think he can keep going 2 years and lead them ?

Great defense (that’s getting older by the day) and suspect offense with a guy playing cheap and hoping to prove he still belongs. Short term - I think it’s a smart move - but without a plan long term or when Wilson inevitably goes down - it’s not looking good for them especially in a competitive division.

Now is the time to grab Justin Fields or some other player who can both learn and contribute more than a year from now and be ready to play if needed mid season if it doesn’t work out.
