The way they count futures bets is that every bet is considered revenue, and then winning futures are counted as losses. So when the finals happen the books have "losses" as soon as the winning team's futures get paid out, even if the books made a net profit on futures over the course of the season.

Wow. Did not know that.
That could hugely impact the month finals occur in any major sport.
