Most importantly, will the books adjust TOTALS properly for this rule change early in the season or will it take a few weeks for them to catch up to the market?

Can we leverage this info. Similar to MLB pitch clock implementation.
I didn’t bet much MLB in the beginning of the season was there a discrepancy edge on totals the 1st month ?

Yeah, they announced earlier in the year that they wanted to decrease the number of plays in a game and make them shorter.

They put in some other rules as well...

First and third quarters can end on a defensive penalty. They will not extend the quarter but they will run the down in the next quarter.

Also, there will be no consecutive timeouts. I think we only really saw that when they were icing kickers. But either way, you can't do it.

I think in 2022 college football games were just over 3 hours and 20 minutes.

It had increased by about 5 minutes per game over about 5 seasons.

This is a game changer for gamblers but probably a necessary change for college football to make because a college football game literally takes 4 hours with the clock stopping for every 1st down. I love college football but 4 hours is pushing it for the viewers and I feel this will be a good change overall for the sport.

  1. Gigantic College Football Rule Change

Under pressure from the TV networks, the College Football rules committee is trying to shorten football game broadcast times. Most gamblers love wagering on the OVER, but the newly implemented rule for the 2023 season will cause a few heartbreaks.

The New Clock rule: According to this rule, the clock will continue to run after an offense gains a first down except within two minutes of a half. Under the old law, the game clock stopped when a team earned a first down, and the clock restarted when the offense picked up the first down.

Valuable game time will tick away as the chain gang won't be eager to run down the field as fast to set the new first-down marker, and teams that snap the ball late in the play clock will take entire quarters to finish drives. Imagine a 15-minute drive leading to a missed field goal? It will happen. The College game is starting to get more like the NFL Game. Be careful when wagering on high totals.
spurrier just quit again

Good take.
