One day in 1972, in Seattle, 22-year-old Sotria Kritsonis waited for over an hour for a city bus to take her to school.
During her wait, a VW Beetle pulled up to the curb, and the guy behind the wheel asked her if she wanted a ride. According to Kritsonis, the man said: “I’ve come down Rainier Avenue and that’s a long way and there’s no bus in sight. Would you like a ride?”
She accepted the ride but after entering the car it soon became apparent that the man was driving her in the opposite direction. Kritsonis thought about jumping out of the car, but she realised that wasn’t an option when she noticed her side of the car didn’t have a door handle.
The man behind the wheel then requested her to remove her hat. When she complied, he inquired, "Why did you cut your hair?" It dawned on her that the man must have been stalking her to be aware of her previous hairstyle and recent haircut.
About an hour into their journey, the man abruptly dropped Kritsonis off in front of her school, forcefully pushing her to the ground, and warned her that she was lucky.
She informed her family about what happened, but decided against calling the police. It took about a year and a half for her to realize, while watching TV, that she had been picked up by the infamous serial killer Ted Bundy, who later confessed to the murders of 30 women.
