Pitching:
Steele (CHC) vs Walker (PHI). Steele has been pitching exeptionally well so far this year except his last outing. He gave up 5 ER in 6 inning but 4 of those were in the 4th when he lost his control. He recovered nicely and finished out the next two innings realatively clean which seems to indicate it was a "one-off" event.
Walker (PHI) is up and down. You're never sure this year if he'll go 1 inning or 6. He's very unpredictable.
Steele: 1.03 WHIP, 3.13 K/BB, 3.26 ERA
Walker: 1.50 WHIP, 2.05 K/BB, 9.45 ERA
Cubs appear to have the edge on pitching
Batting:
Philly doesn't bat well against lefty's. 0.237 vs left and 0.271 vs right.
Cubs are batting slightly better than the Phillies over the last week and for the year. Last 7 days:
Cubs: 111 WRC+, 0.334 wOBA, 0.245 AVG
Phillies: 86 WRC+, 0.301 wOBA, 0.235 AVG
Slight edge Cubs.
Relief Pitching:
Pretty even in this category with Cubs having a small edge.
Cubs: 1.28 WHIP, 4.29 ERA
Phillies: 1.40 WHIP, 4.41 ERA
Misc:
Warning... Cubs have been on a skid of late 3-7 in last 10 but Philllies aren't much better at 5-5 and 1-5 in last 6. I hate playing on teams that are not trending up but I think with both teams records lately, the cubs are the better choice of two mediocre teams. Also, Steele is the #1 pitcher on Cubs so far while Walker is #6 on the Phillies. If Cubs are going to get a win, it is more likely to be with Steele on the mound.
