I did not know this so I looked it up and found out why it is the case. An article from 2015 from Nasa confirms this.
- Antarctic is surrounded by a water currents that helps protect it from the warming ocean currents. This keeps if from melting as fast as the Arctic ice. Even though chunks are breaknig loose, it is continuing to grow in overall area.
- It is made up of sea ice which does not impact sea water levels when it melts. It is easier to form than glacial ice. Artic ice is mainly glacier ice and will add to the sea levels as it melts.
- Based on the rate of temp increase in the world, they expect the Antarctic ice growth to be low enough to not be offset by new ice within 20-30 years.
I did not know a lot of this.
Of course some may say its government propaganda.
