The only guns that Japanese citizens can legally buy and use are shotguns and air rifles, and it's not easy to do. ...
First, you have to attend an all-day class and pass a written test, which are held only once per month. You also must take and pass a shooting range class. Then, head over to a hospital for a mental test and drug test (Japan is unusual in that potential gun owners must affirmatively prove their mental fitness), which you'll file with the police. Finally, pass a rigorous background check for any criminal record or association with criminal or extremist groups, and you will be the proud new owner of your shotgun or air rifle. Just don't forget to provide police with documentation on the specific location of the gun in your home, as well as the ammo, both of which must be locked and stored separately. And remember to have the police inspect the gun once per year and to re-take the class and exam every three years. ...
Japanese law, however, starts with the 1958 act stating that "No person shall possess a firearm or firearms or a sword or swords," later adding a few exceptions. In other words, American law is designed to enshrine access to guns, while Japan starts with the premise of forbidding it. The history of that is complicated, but it's worth noting that U.S. gun law has its roots in resistance to British gun restrictions, whereas some academic literature links the Japanese law to the national campaign to forcibly disarm the samurai, which may partially explain why the 1958 mentions firearms and swords side-by-side. ...
Even the police did not carry firearms themselves until, in 1946, the American occupation authority ordered them to. Now, Japanese police receive more hours of training than their American counterparts, are forbidden from carrying off-duty, and invest hours in studying martial arts. ...
The Japanese and American ways of thinking about crime, privacy, and police powers are so different -- and Japan is such a generally peaceful country -- that it's functionally impossible to fully isolate and compare the two gun control regiments. It's not much easier to balance the costs and benefits of Japan's unusual approach, which helps keep its murder rate at the second-lowest in the world, though at the cost of restrictions that [an historian] calls a "police state," a worrying suggestion that it hands the government too much power over its citizens.

Steve Kerr wants gun restrictions on law abiding gun owners.

Steve Kerr does not want stricter sentencing for gun related crimes nor does Steve Kerr ever discuss the fact that nearly 40% of US adult black males are felons.

If we had longer sentences for gun related crimes, less liberalism on the bench (think of our recent SCOTUS nominee letting pedophiles walk) and longer incarceration for drugs & gun crimes then we'd have less felons on the streets and we'd have less felons procreating kids they have no intention of supporting, thus reducing the cycle of poverty & crime.

This is a simple law & order issue and Steve Kerr doesn't want law...he just wants order. Responsible adults & gun owners are the law in this Country, people like Steve Kerr & their ill mentality are the problem

the damn government could stop school shootings tomorrow, but they are to cheap, you can’t go to a courthouse without going through metal detectors so why not put that in place at all schools, or at least just have guarded entrances at all times

how about we don’t send 40 billion to fund the war in Ukraine and we spend it on school security, let the europeans fund their war
Metal detectors is a great idea. I don't care if it will take forever for the students to enter their classes as long as everyone of them pass the scan.

Wouldn't a long line of people waiting to enter at one spot create the ultimate "fish in a barrel" shooting opportunity?

Amazing how liberals never think about the practical matter.

Let's take Joe & Hunters I'll gotten wealth and open the Steve Kerr gun exchange. $5k for gross misdemeanor criminals guns & $10k for felons guns. No questions asked, just get em off the street and get cash.

How many felons will trade in their guns?

Answer, zero.

If they won't give them up voluntarily for money, then they sure as hell won't give them up involuntary for nothing.

The 'solution' to the problem is longer sentences for gun crimes, and mental health capacity being treated at 15 as an adult. This fukk nut was a ticking time bomb with all the same lib talking points.

Bullied
Cutting himself
Issues w women
Known to police

Ok, there's enough here, just like Buffalo shooter, to lock this nut job up. But because we are so delicate in trying to reform or save troubled youth, we do nothing.

Society needs to get pieces of shit that don't have it together off the street.

I'm sick of accommodating every liberal agenda for victims. This kid was not a victim, he was just a loser. A loser who was never told he was a loser until the real world smacked him in the face.

We cannot continue to create a society of troubled men. Men need to know their limits and abilities, this kid was failed by school and family because they made him believe he could be something he's not.

I live in a very conservative area. A couple of years ago there was a bond passed with overwhelming approval, to add metal detectors to schools. Now all of our new schools have metal detectors. They are going through and retrofitting all lobbies of existing schools now. Should be done by start of new school year.

There are not any lines in the mornings at the schools with metal detectors. It's nothing like an airport with TSA lines.

So now the police are being questioned why it took over an hour to kill the perp upon arrival. IMO they were chicken shits they were out gunned. Pistols vs assault rifle. In their defense it took four officers gun fire to penetrate all the shooters body armor.

dude did you see how the parents wanted to run in to save their kids because the cops werent doing anything, and instead of helping the kids, the cops were tackling and stopping the parents. even if out gunned, its their job to protect, no?

Anyone remember that guy in LA all body armored up and multiple assault rifles. The cops we’re going into local gun shop to get heavier equipment. Finally an officer got close enough to stick a pistol in between the shooters helmet and shot him via his throat. Assault rifles and body armor should not be available to the public imo.

i mean after everything over the past couple of years, i understand why cops are so hesitant with things. i've also encountered so many cops that simply do not care. is it bad to blame society?
Very good point.

Cops will not remove vagrants or loiterors at my loan shops in Minny here for fear of incident.

In February I literally had to drag 2 Indians outta my shops after they broke in to sleep, defecated, and refused to leave.

Cops wouldn't get out of their squad to assist as I dragged then a block away.

In this case, I'm not going to harangue a local yokal small town cop for not rushing into a hostile scene. He had 0 information, they set up the perimeter, they engaged in dialog w the shooter & by all accounts and video evidence the killing was done immediately prior to any law enforcement arriving.

It would be different if this were a large city w tactical units.

i never understood why the average person would need an AR
I guess I’m not average then. I’ve owned ARs since I got out of the military 40 years ago, and I just called my wife in FL (I’m in Houston for the NRA convention tomorrow) to open both my gun safes and check their status and she reports that they have not gotten out and shot anyone.

Look I’m just being a smart ass, but unless you have actually gone to a range or in the woods and fired one you don’t know what fun your missing
