Since Mt. West teams will have to pay some $34 million to be pilfered by the Pac 4 there is another shell game style plan.

The plan would be to dissolve the Mt. West name, and move all those assets into the Pac 12 shell. This would avoid the fee, lol, and rebuild the Pac ranks.

This is one of many ideas being tossed around right now.

Regardless, something must happen and the remaining Pac 12 school athletes will have few place to compete in 2024.

Dissolving the Pac as a conference is not ideal as that would get rid of Power 5 seat as well as negating College Football Playoff and NCAA Tourney distributions that get into tens of millions of dollars themselves.

I could see this happening. I mean the Pac-12 name means a whole lot more than the MWC.
I just wonder if this occurs, will they still be a considered a power conference or G-5?

What I've read, and been told, implies that keeping the Pac as a conference means they keep that seat at the table.

Hence the shell game to restock the ranks.

But who knows, things are changing so fast.

If thats true then the shell game must commence. That would be a huge bonus for teams to get into the Pac-12 and get that "power" conference tag.

The remaining PAC 4 teams would have to expect a dramatic pay cut in a TV deal if there was even one now at this point.

100% agree... There dont have a namebrand team to hang their hat on. They could have gotten by with only USC and UCLA leaving but not now.

Even if they are able to scrape up a TV deal..... like you say, it will be small in comparison to the other 4 major conferences. That will make it tough for them to compete long-term.

They might be lucky to get $15M per team vs $30M+ the other conferences are seeing.

Wow....

To bad they didn't pull it off. Somehow I'm thinking SD St. isn't receiving any kudos from the MWC teams that might have been screwed in the deal.

I'm betting Cal and Stanford go ACC, unless FSU and Clemson leave for SEC (I don't think they will due to the $$$ required to leave).

I was watching a video earlier talking about College Football eventually going into two separate leagues just like the NFL with a total of 48 teams and 24 teams in each league. It would have a 16 team playoff where a 1/3 of the teams make the playoffs. No more crappy games against nobodies. That would leave the BIG 12 out of the picture even if they end up surviving with only the BIG and SEC being relative.

Looks like Fla St. is staying put through 2024 at least.

They have to announce by Tuesday (today) if they are not playing in the ACC in 2024. Board of regents has no meetings scheduled.
