Let me tell you this, I can pretty much guarantee you that in the high 90% of people would never do or go where I go and the situations I put myself in. One example, when I go to Mong La, it is the tip of Myanmar on the Chinese border, it is run by militia and rebels. I initially years ago begged to go there from a tour guy in Myanmar, he refused to take me and said it is not safe and there is no reason to go there. I kept searching and finally found someone to take me. After 8 hours on a dirt road , very dangerous on the way there, we were stopped twice by people with guns asking where we were going etc, something out of a movie. We finally got there. I had to surrender my passport, my phone and bribe $100 just to get in. I was extremely nervous because if my passport is gone what and where would I go for help in an SEZ, keep in mind this is nothing like where I am familiar with in Cambodia this is a whole different ball game. I went to opium farms and saw opium production going on, I spent 13 hours there my first trip, my guide was with me and could not comprehend why and what the hell I wanted to go there for. there are about 50 hidden casinos, reports that you read is they are closed but they are there. It is all run by mafia and rebels run the city. I have been back 4 times since., my 3rd time I was denied and they refused to let me in but they finally let me in but each time I must give up my passport and phone, I stayed 2 nights it was 2 of the craziest nights I have ever had in my life. There is a huge illegal wildlife trade there, I saw a monkey being electrocuted , someone bought it and they were cooking the brains, it sold for $400, I have seen baby bears in cages, I have seen the worst of humanity on a whole different level and I would never speak on it on a forum but it is a story that needs to be heard. This is a great documentary on Mong La but very inaccurate when it comes to certain things. But when you have some time watch these. You can see some of the hidden gambling places here as well as the wild life trade up close. The only time I felt sketched was one they insisted I try the opium but refused and couldn't understand why I even wanted to see it. It is fun as hell there but Cambodia is a lot better but more dangerous in Sihanoukville, but the whole experience in Mong La is what people need to experience but very difficult to go and most would never do what it takes.
