Happens with electricians/mechanics/gardeners/etc of all types, not just illegals

Lot of shitty American electricians out there as well that will try to scam you if everything isn't great, and can cost you $

Illegals a lot of the time actually do pretty high-quality work cuz they know their margin for error here is smaller. Just gotta find the right ones.

All my weekly garden maintenance is done by illegals (which are obviously more common in CA), and they are paid well. Pretty common here. There are shitty ones as well

Just gotta find the right people

Yes, it can happen with anyone really. "illegals" are deliberately hired to pay less. / avoid taxes.
who are just trying to earn an honest living and provide for their families & kids better futures.

Mexicans works 5x as hard in general. Especially in the construction business.
Real estate people save a TON. Its insane.
My entire neighborhood complex of ~80, 3/4 br houses were built by ALL just ~50 mexicans TOTAL.
All of which was done from From ground up. incl. electric/water/pool/tennis courts etc. in <2 years.
Women as well! even climbing roofs and installing shingles. Lawns, everything.
U can imagine how much an "american company" would charge to do this.

How much would it cost to do basic "lawn service" by a legit American owned business ?-compared.
Its not just CA, its all over the country, usually ppl hire them cuz their cheap & get the job done.

Bottomline: Mexicans work much much harder than an avg. american. while risking their necks out.
I've never seen a single "lazy" mexican in my entire 14 years of being in this country.

Mexicans certainly work harder than Florida based electricians

They need to be brought into the union or at least paid prevailing wage. Read again the first paragraph you wrote. A rising tide lifts all boats. What will happen to them when they find people that will actually work harder and cheaper? What you are describing is a race to the bottom that eliminates the American middle class. Not to mention let's cut all the Bullshit that every illegal immigrant is a God fairing, family loving, upstanding man if that was the case Mexico should be paradise and they would have no reason to leave in the first place.

Exactly the illegals are hurting the middle class and I fall into that category so this is why I share that perspective.

That's just not true lol middle class much more impacted by what happens at the top than at the bottom of these industries, and that's been true basically forever. Not to say there aren't economic ramifications to illegal immigration, but there are MUCH more relevant battles to win on our home turf

Also there are obviously bad apples that cross the border, no one saying otherwise. But there are obviously equally as much shitty people at home. His point was that they work harder knowing more is at stake/they need to to survive.

Not taking sides but one thing I've experienced twice in the last 6 months, is you can go with a local business to do the work and pay more, which I have no problem with but, you typically can't get on their schedule for several days.

We had a plumbing leak in a wall. Had to shut water off to the house. Called local businesses that were charging $80/hr labor rate. The best response I could get from them was, "We can get to you in 4 days or if you're willing to pay $160/hr we can be there tonight." $160 $/hr???????? WTF?

These trades are so backed up because there aren't enough of them for the work. Not many Americans are interested in the skilled crafts/trades market so there are fewer and fewer of them so these businesses hold you hostage.

Now, if I had gone the other route and hired someone who was likely an immigrant and recommended by a lot of neighbors for doing good work, he would have been there the next day at $50/hr.

Like I said, its a tough call on which way to go when these type of issues come up.

I typically charge 40-50 an hour myself so I’m in that demographic of service.

Sounds like a pretty easy call to make in this particular scenario, at least for me lol

But yeah, too many businesses are garbage for trying to pull that shit. Unfortunately happens in other industries too where you have some shortages

So the company is charging more than 3x the price and as we have been told that illegals work 5x harder and at a third of the price but one of them is backed up with work and the other has no work and can do it right away does that make any sense to you 🤔. Maybe you should wait the four days and just piss in the woods.

Yeah.... I told the wife to pee in the bushes. That didn't happen. I paid the ransom and got it fixed that night to keep the wife happy.

My neighbors stated that the guy that could be there the next day, works 16 hours days and does excellent work. He is also small time, not like a big plubming company so he may not have built up a huge client base yet. That might explain his availability. Maybe he will raise his prices as demand increases for him but, the company we did use robbed us. How do you justify those rates when someone just as good can do it next day for 1/3 the price?

I don't mind paying more for good service but it seems many businesses these days are really sticking it to us. That's why I'm not surprised many people go the immigrant routeto get work done.

I mean it's not like illegals are going around and screaming about their business. Have to rely on word-of-mouth to generate any sort of customer base. They're more likely to operate under the radar

Very possible that they also just make the time to serve customers promptly simply because they're more willing to, and taking the job could lead to a new client

Also some people simply would rather get fucked over by some scammy company than hire illegals simply because they're illegals.
